Greetings all!

It’s been a looong time since we’ve posted anything here, but we spend most of our time over on Facebook these days. Regardless, I thought I’d tell you about our show at C’ville Coffee the other night. We played a great set for a small but enthusiastic crowd with lots of new faces in it. C’ville Coffee is a listener’s venue, so we weren’t competing with lots of bar noise or football games. I got to play my new upright bass in public for the first time, and from what I’m told I did pretty well. It sounded fantastic from where I was standing. We really enjoyed playing there and hope to be back when the schedule opens up later this year.

Don’t forget that we’ll be back at one of our favorite spots, McGrady’s Irish Pub in Charlottesville for St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday, March 17. Show starts at 8pm, but get there early if you want a good seat. There’s always a line around the block for this party.

Tonight was our first gig in the “back room” at Obrigado. We had a small but enthusiastic crowd. The ambience of the room is nice…a little warm but we’re assured that the A/C will be working next time. We had a special guest singer during the third set. Christian’s dad, George, got up and sang “A Few Ole Country Boys” with us. We’re told we sounded pretty good, but since we decided against pulling out the monitors for such a small room we’ll have to take the crowd’s word for it. Lesson learned, even if you’re playing in a broom closet, use the monitors!

Looking forward to seeing you all out at McGrady’s in August!

Jamie’s and Christina’s Going Away Party – Bath Co., VA

It was with heavy hearts that we played our most recent show in Bath County. Our dear friends Jamie and Christina McKay are moving to Utah in July, so we headed down to see them off in true Sheriffs fashion. Scott and Nancy Miller threw a helluva shindig at their place out in the country. It was a beautiful day. The Sheriffs were feeling a bit rough from the previous night (thanks, Jamie!) but we managed to eke out two sets of our standards for the assembled masses. Photos and audio (possibly even some video) of the show forthcoming. Thanks again to everyone who came out to see us and to say “See you later” (no goodbyes here) to the McKays. You’ll truly be missed, but whenever you come back to VA to visit, you’ll most likely see us there!

JCS @ Obrigado Restaurant – April 24, 2009

We had a pretty good show at O’s this night. Crowd wasn’t as big as it has been in the past, but they were nonetheless enthusiastic. As has become our standard, we recorded this show. We’re still working on tweaking the setup, but the results so far have been promising. You can give them a listen below. Remember, we said they’re not great. But if you can’t make it to a show, hearing it online is the next best thing! As always, thanks to everyone who came out to see us. We’ll be back at Obrigado in July, albeit in the smaller back room (sadly, the “music space” is no more). Remember to check out the “Gigs” page for more info!

The not-so-new, but improved website is now online!

That’s right. Same old look, but new great taste. We’ve migrated the site to a WordPress format, which may not mean much to most of you. But to us it means easier updates, cool new features and the ability to more easily stay connected with our fans.

Is that a new JCS website, John Wayne? Is this me?

So I’ve converted the JCS website to WordPress. Lots of cool features. Hopefully they’ll see the light of day. As of this posting, this is just a beta site. But I hope to convince the other two-thirds of the band that it’s worth a switch. We’ll see…

For the second year in a row, the JCS rocked McGrady’s Irish Pub in Charlottesville. It was a great show! Lots of fun, lots of green beer. Many thanks to Scott and his crew for having us back. We’re looking forward to returning in 2010!

Many thanks to Christian for posting all the old blog posts from 2001-2007 earlier. I’ve gone back and copied them all into the blog, so they’re all available from the archives menu. It’s hard to believe we’ve been at this gig for over eight years now! Hopefully we’ll still be around doing this for another eight.

We’re also playing at McGrady’s Irish Pub in Charlottesville on St. Patrick’s Day (fitting, huh?). We had a blast there last year and fully expect this year to be just as much fun. You’d be a fool to miss it!

On The Road Again

Seems like years since I’ve updated this website. (It has been). I’m pleased to report that we had an excellent show at Obrigado in Louisa back on September 14. Which has led to more gigs. We’re actually starting to feel like a real band again. At a most unusual time – Kyle recently had his first child and I recently had my second, and all the while, Christian continues to raise his little girl, run a farm, and in his spare time, work on his graduate degree. Despite the ever-increasing work on the homefronts, we’ve still managed to keep this thing together. We’ve had several impromptu shows at some most improbable locations recently, and were even invited to play a live radio show out in the mountains of Virginia. Alas, family obligations forced us to decline that opportunity, but we hope to perhaps capitalize on that goodwill another time soon.

We’re making our (hopefully triumphant) return to northern Virginia early next year with a gig at Molly’s Irish Pub in Warrenton. This has the potential to become a mainstay, so if you’re an old NOVA fan from the days at Ben’s Whole Hog, we’d love to see you come out for this show. We’re looking forward to a great time. And we’ve got another gig lined up at Obrigado again for the local crowd. We had a great first show there back in September with a standing-room-only full house. (So if you’re coming out to the next show, consider calling ahead to reserve a table for your party). And as always, we’re more than happy to entertain requests for private shows, so drop us a line.
